Where young locals head after midnight; open-front pubs project Premier League onto bedsheets, street chefs grill pork bile skewers, and tuk-tuks queue until the last whistle.

- ✓ Stick to bottled or filtered water even in bars. Ice cylinders with holes through the middle are factory-made and safe, chipped block ice is not.
- ✓ Leave scooters outside the main bar strips, parking attendants collect 2,000 kip and watch helmets, preventing opportunistic grabs.
- ✓ Police spot-checks happen near the Presidential Palace after midnight. Carry a photocopy of your passport and visa, not the original.
- ✓ Mekong riverbanks look inviting but drop off fast. Skip late-night swims no matter how warm the air feels.
